Equipment Used On
Investigations
EMF Meter
Electro-Magnetic Field Meter is well worth buying
for investigations. When investigating a property
you must make notes where all electrical appliances
are, because these items cause a magnetic field,
which the EMF Meter will pick up on, so obviously
when the investigations is taking place, any
fluctuations will have to be taken in to account if
you are in the vicinity of say the TV etc. If
however you are not near any wiring, or appliances,
and fluctuating on your EMF meter of over approx 2
milligauss could indicate some form of paranormal
presence.
Laser Temperature Gun
Use for doing baseline tests (before the
investigation begins) and for testing any cold spots
found whilst conducting your investigation.
Infra-Red Sensors/Motion Detectors
These can be placed in a locked off room to detect
any movement in that room, make sure you check for
draughts etc before placing, as this can activate
the device.
Camcorders
For evidence gathering, (infrared), can be placed in
a locked off room on a tripod, or hand held.
Candles (& Matches/Lighter)
Can be used as emergency lights, and for checking
for draughts. Never leave un attended (fire hazard).
Digital Cameras
Used for taking general shots of anywhere in the
location, download all your pics onto your computer
(laptop) to check for light anomalies.
Walkie-talkies
Obviously for keeping in touch whilst on location,
also its it a very good idea to have hands free
operation, by using a headset or an ear piece.
Before starting the investigation, make sure you are
all on the same channel!
Digital Voice Recorder
EVP has become quite a popular way of gathering
possible evidence of messages from the "after life".
Just set the recorder off on record in a locked off
room, and that’s basically it! Its not recommended
to leave it recording for more than an hour at the
most, as it can be very tedious going through it
all....
Laptop Computer & Infrared Webcam
Can be used in a locked off room, to record any
movement. & for viewing digital photo's on.
Note Book/Pad
Someone in the group should be taking notes all
evening, of all events that happen however
insignificant they seem at the time, as this will be
your records for putting together your report for
the investigation.
Torches
A MUST! even if you use them just for changing
batteries......We use torches with IR filters on
them, so they do not destroy your night vision.
First Aid Kit
Also a MUST HAVE. (For obvious reasons).
Talcum Powder or Flour
Use to sprinkle in areas (locked off room) to see
footprints etc, make sure you clear it all up before
leaving the building though! It is easier and more
practical to us talc, as it is in a container which
allows you so shake it out easily.
Trigger Objects
If you use these, use a piece of white A4 paper and
draw round the item (coin etc) and then train a
camcorder on the object and leave it in a locked off
room for a set amount of time, then obviously, if
any movement has happened, it will all be on your
camera footage. (Make sure the whole sheet of paper
is covered by the camera angle).
Spare Batteries
For everything, be it torches, walkie-talkies,
camcorders, cameras etc. Its surprising how many you
can go through in a night’s investigation,
especially cam-corder batteries, they only last a
couple of hours sometimes....
Sellotape & Cotton
Use on the doorways of locked off rooms. (Proof no
one has entered the room)
Compass
Some people use a compass instead of an EMF Meter,
as these also are affected by magnetic fields, so
use with caution.
Floor Plan of Your Location
Every member of the team should have one, and be
aware of where in the building everyone else is at a
given time.
Notes
Always visit your location before you conduct an
investigation, familiarise yourself with possible
hazards in daylight hours, also see that there is
somewhere safe to park the vehicles. Also, make sure
you are NOT trespassing, always carry I.D with you,
and get PERMISSION, written permission from the
owner, (or you may find yourself in a cell for the
night). Try telling a police officer you are ghost
hunting, in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of
the night! It will probably end in an arrest and
much raucous laughter for the arresting officer and
his colleagues! Bear in mind also, that any bad
press you get will inevitably be bad press for all
paranormal groups out there, so always conduct
yourself in a professional manner.....
Happy Ghost hunting!
